Literature Review: The Effects of Sleep Deprivation on Overall Health in College Students

ACCESS ARTIFACT HERE

I wrote this literature review for my Determinants of Health Behavior (Health 2400) course. The paper explores how sleep deprivation impacts the overall health of college students, using existing, peer-reviewed scientific journals. We had the freedom to choose our own topics, and I selected sleep deprivation due to its widespread prevalence among college students. I reviewed studies that applied frameworks like the Social Cognitive Theory and the Self-Determination Theory to better understand how these concepts could be used to address sleep deprivation. In my research, I also explored various factors influencing this behavior at the intrapersonal, interpersonal, and organizational levels. The paper concludes with recommendations for reducing sleep deprivation among college students. This assignment helped me develop skills in using previous interventions to generate new solutions, as well as adopting a holistic perspective on health behaviors and the different factors that shape them. As a physician, I will be better prepared to help my patients modify their health behaviors to achieve desired health outcomes, as I will be able to take into account the various factors influencing their behavior.

Annotated Bibliography: Morocco & SDG's

This was the first annotated bibliography that I have written! It was for my Global Health class, and it focuses on different aspects of health issues in Morocco. After reading from different sources, I chose three publications that were particularly relevant to the previous research I had done regarding Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) and Morocco.  The first citation and explanation discuss the rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in global public health, and emphasizes its impact in the region of Morocco. It narrows down to the rising rates of cardiovascular diseases and risk factors that contribute to these rates. Secondly, I read and wrote about an article that analyzed a possible solution to improve maternal and neonatal health. The article interestingly calculated the projected impact of a certain intervention,  investing in midwives will ensure access to quality care and reduce maternal and child mortality. The last section of the annotated bibliography looks into healthcare reforms,  and identifies its relation to the improvement of anesthetic practice.
